Garden Time March 2019

Beloved Church-in-the-Garden Family & Friends,

In celebration of Women’s History Month we have been examining women in the Bible who continue to teach and empower not only women, but also humankind in general, since the beginning of recorded history. We celebrate Women’s History Month at Church-in-the-Garden because we as a church are the beneficiaries of women who made in the image and likeness of God, were chosen to lead, support, nourish, preach, prophesy, and deliver God’s glory to the earth. We honor women because we understand that in this day and age, their plight and experience has shown us how to defy odds, banish stereotypes, and to lead, serve, and overcome in the face of oppressive tradition, unrelenting sexism, crippling misogyny, and unjust societies. We as a church family are continuously nurtured and advanced by the women in our congregation! Thank you to our young and young at heart women in our church!

Thank you to the many who responded to our video that we posted within the Pastor’s Page and in last month’s Garden Time. Our ministry appreciates the feedback that comes from our friends who care about what we want to share with others for the spread of the Gospel. Your suggestions help immensely. We will be creating a new page on our website for all to “look and listen” to our worship very soon. Please stay tuned for more information and updates.

Praise God for the power of the Holy Spirit that was in the midst of our congregation during our celebration of Black History Month. Our message of hope and achievement for those who have been historically oppressed and marginalized in this country, was a clarion call for our collective “Motivation for Our Journey” (Isaiah 40:28-31); as the Lord Christ gave us answers to the question “For What are You Searching?” (Mark 1:35-37); we recognize, that Jesus Christ already foretold, that we as believers of Christ will have “Trouble” (John 16:33).

During February we were happy to have first time guests at the church. We were blessed to welcome my friend and colleague, the Reverend Lynn A. Sullivan, Senior Pastor of the Garden City Community Church, who preached a word from the Lord entitled “And the Girl Got Up” (Matthew 9:18-26). We were glad to welcome some of her members and one who was baptized at the Church-in-the-Garden as a young person some time ago. Reverend Sullivan, thank you for a relevant word and your ministry and leadership in our community.

I cannot overstate the fact that the Church-in-the-Garden is a place for all to come and find the love of Jesus Christ and a welcoming, open, and affirming community of believers. We want you to come, worship, and fellowship with us as we try to live better and do better for all humanity by the teachings of Jesus Christ. Plus, we have really great singing! All are welcome to service every Sunday at the Church-in-the-Garden: Where Jesus Christ is Exalted and the Word of God is Explained. The Garden is Open to All!

Blessings Aplenty,
