The Installation Service of the Reverend Earl Y. Thorpe as pastor of the Church-in-the-Garden, First Baptist of Garden City will take place on Sunday, May 15, 2016 at 5:30pm. The Board of Ministry cordially invites all to come and witness this historic event at this historic church. Reverend Thorpe is the ninth pastor called to Church-in-the-Garden and the first African-American pastor in the history of the church. The Installation Speaker for the evening will be the President of the SUNY College of Old Westbury and Pastor of the Abyssinian Baptist Church, the Reverend Dr. Calvin O. Butts III. 

Since 1946, Church-in-the-Garden has been the stalwart American Baptist church in Garden City. With over sixty years of Christian witness in the community, Church-in-the-Garden is moving boldly towards the future to ensure that the Gospel ministry and the love of God is spread throughout Garden City, Nassau County, and beyond. The Church-in-the-Garden is called by God in Christ to be a Christian community: Open to all to experience God’s Grace and share God’s Love through empowering evangelism, dedicated pastoral care, sound Christian education, and faithful social concern.
